April 02, 2025 - Updated thoughts on the Nekoweb Discord

On March 11th, I posted a very short blog about my thoughts on the Nekoweb discord server and that's truly how I felt about it, at the time. Of course, it wasn't convoluted or extensive in detail because I really didn't know how to put my thoughts into words about it, but the images that I put in the post sort of represented the behavior that *was* in the server at the time.

However, since then, there's been some changes to the Nekoweb server that are great and will help in the long run.

In my eyes, the Nekoweb server was really meant to be a support server for people who need help with navigating the website and troubleshooting problems they're having with their account, or just requesting help with their code in general. Whether that's true or not is up for discussion, but the way that the server was before these changes made the average Joe see that it was some type of social server, I feel.

But thankfully, dimden and the rest of the moderation team came together to improve the server, as well as make some small changes to the website:

  • 2 new moderators (june and sen)
  • Moderator role visible in the members list (big change!)
  • New rules (thank god)
  • Users can now report other users using Sapphire (Sapphire bot my beloved ❤︎)
  • Moderators have new guidelines and when and how to moderate effectively (big!)
  • Banned users can now send an appeal every 6 months
  • The nekoweb-help channel is now a forum channel (big!)
  • The Nekoweb website removed the Discord invite to rely on internal support emails rather than the server (BIG!)

Things like these were stuff that I really thought were needed prior to the changes, especially the new ruleset. Before, I had presumed that the "moderation discretion" type of ruleset was set-in-stone and that's just how it was going to be forever. Because of this, and the fact that I have so much going on in my life that I wouldn't be able to moderate effectively, I had chosen to notify dimden of my step-down.

HOWEVER, now that there are more mods and big and better changes to the server, I am not opposed to staying on the team for the time being. Whether or not I'm still going to be replaced and kicked off, that's up to dimden and I wouldn't be opposed to it. I still will just lurk like I have been the past couple of weeks.

I feel like I'm rambling again lol.

Anyways, BIG and GOOD changes to the server and I'm glad it's taking a step in a good direction.
